Hey Family Campers

Thank y’all for watching this mini-concert! I’m sorry we didn’t get to be with you this summer. We missed swimming in the Blue Hole and paddling down the Frio River (and the milkshakes that followed).

I have enjoyed some of the benefits of playing shows from home: pulling out the vintage guitar I won’t take on an airplane, playing the upright piano of my childhood (recently fetched from Mississippi), or having my son sit in on drums. But since I don’t get to see your reactions or have a little in-person-chat, please feel free to follow up by email if y’all want.

I flubbed a line on the last verse of “Spector” and wanted to give the correct lyrics here:

There’s a pretty little tune the Trio sings
You wrote it for your Dad I read among other things

“To know him is to love him and I do…”
Would you say the line still applies to you?

The Trio refers to Dolly Parton, Linda Ronstadt, and Emmylou Harris and their album release from 1987 where they cover a song by Phil Spector. If you want to learn more about the singer, Darlene Love, and her relationship with Spector, check out Twenty Feet From Stardom, a wonderful documentary about background singers.

Thanks so much to Cary and the staff at LLFC for suggesting this idea!

Dear Families

The fall is in full swing. No doubt that means our family schedules have intensified. School (either “in person” or “virtual”) is underway, sports practices (while “social distancing”?) are happening and so much more. In the midst of everything, we hope your family still has time to slow down and recognize the goodness God provides.

If we had been together at Laity Lodge Family Camp this past summer, we would have enjoyed a beautiful concert on Wednesday night offered by Claire Holley. Claire is a very talented musician and great friend of LLFC.

We asked Claire to record a short “in home” concert for you since we couldn’t be together. Consider it a Tiny Roundup. We hope you enjoy it.

You can find more of Claire Holley’s music here.

Peace,

Cary Hendricks
Senior Director, Laity Lodge Family Camp

Tell us what you think!

Did your family watch or listen to the Tiny Roundup together? Maybe while you were preparing dinner or doing dishes. Maybe sitting together on the couch. Maybe as a podcast while you were driving. Maybe you organized your own Roundup game of Chug and Crush. We want to hear all about your Tiny Roundup experience.
