Matt Huffman
Meet Matt Huffman, Executive Chef of Laity Lodge Camping Programs!
Matt has worked for the H. E. Butt Foundation since 2014. Matt previously served as the Executive Chef for Laity Lodge Family Camp then moved to his current role fall of 2021. Before coming to Texas, Matt served in various roles with a Christian camp in Northern Wisconsin. His responsibilities included working in Development, Family Camp Programming, and as the Food Service Manager.
Matt was born and raised in northern Michigan. He started college at Michigan Community College and received a Bachelor’s Degree from Carin University near Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Matt also lived in Illinois, where he married his wife, Julie. Matt and Julie later moved to Wisconsin where Matt served with Forest Spring Ministries and started his family. Then, Matt and his family moved to Kerrville in 2014. Matt and Julie have four kids: Simon, Hudson, Alivia, and Clara, along with one dog and two cats. When Matt isn’t out at the Canyon, he loves camping, spending time with family at the beach, playing cornhole or pitching horseshoes, cutting firewood and sitting around a campfire in the backyard.
“Being able to make the experience for the whole family – including those with special food allergies – the best it can be, is why I got into food service in the first place. I have always enjoyed being able to serve the needs of others and being able to serve at a beautiful facility like Headwaters is the best of both worlds. I love seeing the joy and laughter on the faces of the families that come to Family Camp – the ones that are there for the first time and the ones that return year after year. I also love to see staff return weekend after weekend with the opportunity to provide families with a great weekend.”
